A Push for Access

See how you can help give the gift of access to fellow residents...

Everyone deserves to understand the decision-making processes and conversations that will shape the future of the Town of Amherst.

One of our missions is to bridge the digital divide in Amherst. We hope to accomplish this through providing access to training and technology, a goal that requires us to stay ahead in a technology landscape that is evolving rapidly. This effort aims to empower all community members, irrespective of language barriers, to be well-informed and actively involved. civically engaged.

With the thanks to growing technologies and capabilities available to us, we have the opportunity to provide our audience not only with live captions in English, but live and on demand translations in over 70 languages.

As our community continues to deliberate on its commitment to diversity and inclusion, and the role the town can play in this, it is crucial to consider those members who are non-English speakers or have hearing impairments. These individuals are integral to our community and should have equal access to all types of programming, be it governmental or otherwise, as their fellow community members.

How Can I Help?

Join us in being a catalyst for change by contributing to our initiative: the Closed Captions & Translations Campaign.

Donors have the opportunity to designate which program and language they wish to support through their donation. To acknowledge their generosity, we will include the following message at the start and conclusion of each program:

"Closed Captions for this program are provided by..."

Furthermore, donors can receive a 30-second Public Service Announcement (PSA) to express to the community the significance of supporting this cause.
